Sieving of Agglomerating Powders with the Air Jet Sieving Machine AS 200 Jet
11 Aug 2010: This technical note describes a method of air jet sieving for agglomerating powders. Air jet sieving is usually the method of choice for dry sieving of materials with particle sizes below 40 microns. However, it is also a faster alternative to vibratory sieving of materials of up to 250 microns.

Using the CryoMill for Samples with Volatile Components
10 Aug 2010:

This technical paper discusses size reduction using a cryogenic mill for samples with volatile components. The sample is embrittled by liquid nitrogen which improves its breaking behavior when submitted to impact, pressure and friction; moreover, volatile components of the sample are preserved.

How Clean are your Vials and Closures?
13 Jul 2010: This poster from HPLC 2010 demonstrates the effectiveness of pre-cleaned National Scientific MS vials. The MS certified vials and various competitor vials were exposed to acetonitrile for two hours and subsequently analyzed by LC/UV, LC/MS and GC/MS. Resulting data showed no evidence of sample contamination using the National Scientific MS Vials.

Applications of the MODcol Dynamic Axial Compression Spring Column Technology
10 May 2010: This application note presents the MODcol® Dynamic Axial Compression Spring® Column technology from Grace Davison Discovery Sciences. This technology compensates for voids formed by bed settling, extending column lifetime and improving column performance without an external power source. The highly versatile MODcol® DAC Spring® Columns provide flexible technology for preparative and semi-preparative chromatography.

Detecting Barbiturates by Reversed Phase Liquid Chromatography
05 May 2010: Barbiturates are central nervous system depressants and they act in a similar manner to alcohol and slow down many areas of the brain. This application note presents a method of extracting barbiturates from urine and plasma samples by using Tox-Elut solid phase extraction columns and identification through UV/Vis absorbance spectrum comparisons with a reference library.

Are Natural Products Delivering? Experiences and Recommendations from 27 Screening Campaigns
04 May 2010: In this application note from BioFocus, microbial strain subfractions are generated and used in high-throughput screens (HTS) for analysis with regard to diversity, selectivity and strain origin. Natural compounds were identified during the follow up of subfraction screening programs and their chemical properties have been analyzed. Searches in natural product databases revealed that 135 of the 645 identified natural compounds are novel compounds.

Comminution of Cocoa Beans for Pesticide, Heavy Metal or Mycotoxin Analysis
07 Apr 2010: In this application note, the Fritsch Mortar Mill PULVERISETTE 2, Planetary-Ball Mill PULVERISETTE 6 classic line and Variable-Speed-Rotor Mill PULVERISETTE 14 are used for the communition of cocoa beans. The Fritsch mills produce cocoa powder of sufficient fineness for heavy metal, mycotoxin and pesticide analysis.

Ozone Precursor Analysis Using the TurboMatrix Thermal Desorption GC System
02 Sep 2009: This application note describes a method developed by PerkinElmer in conjunction with the U.S. EPA to collect and measure C2 to C12 automatically, in the field, without the use of liquid cryogen.2. This system has been updated to support the use of a new Thermal Desorption (TD) system, the TurboMatrix™ TD.
